Sharing Your TiVo With Multiple TVs

Updated: 10/02/2004: I’ve decided to move my review of the CrossBar MediaKit from my family website to this site. Click here for the complete review.

For the past month or so, I’ve spent some time looking into how I could share my TiVo with multiple rooms throughout my house. I didn’t want to have to buy another TiVo and pay the extra amount for the subscription.

My research ended when I found the CrossBar Media Kit. Check out my complete review of the product over at my family website or on CrossBar Media.

What’s In Your TiVo’s To Do List?

What season passes/wish lists do you have setup? I am always looking for shows to add to my To Do list. I currently have about 10 shows that I record on a regular basis. I think that one of the problems with the TiVo is that you tend to watch the same stuff over and over again. Has this been your experience?

Life Without TiVo

Do you remember what life was like without TiVo? I do…I use to spend a lot of time sitting in front of my TV surfing for something to watch. Now I am able to watch what I want when I want to. Also, since I spend hardly any time “surfing”, I am able to watch more TV in less time.

I’m not trying to make it sound like all I do is sit in front of my TV and veg-out. TiVo allows me to enjoy my TV rather then searching for something to watch…..

Things To Do With A TiVo

Here are some things you could do if you had a Tivo.

  • Pause Live TV (You never know when you need to go to the b-room)
  • Record TV (I love to record Cops)
  • Instant Replay (I couldn’t believe it when I replayed the Janet Jackson Halftime Show)
  • Setup a Season Pass (can’t miss the final episode of Friends)
  • Record Using a Wishlist (Here is one of mine, Smurfs*)
  • Listen to your mp3s
  • View your picture collection over the TV
  • Show all your friends how big of a geek you are
  • Get the latest weather automatically downloaded from your favorite weather site (JavaHMO)
  • Download and view your most favorite comic strip (JavaHMO)
  • Post a useless article on your website about things to do with a Tivo
  • Record you Favorite sport so that you don’t have to watch any commercials.
  • Record movies off of HBO even though you won’t watch them because you are too picky about movies and how realistic they are :)
  • …..Did I miss anything?….
  • UPDATED: Use TiVo to get you out of security at the airport :)

Why Have A Blog Dedicated To TiVo?

There are a number of reasons why I started this site up.
1. I love TiVo and I want to let others know about how great it is. TiVo has truly changed my life and I think it is one product that everybody should have in their household
2. I use to post TiVo related content on my family website however; I realized that most of my family & friends don’t want to hear me rant and rave about my TiVo :) .
3. Why not? Hosting is cheap!
4. I’m a geek….geeks need to have a site to post their thoughts.
5. Did I say that I love my TiVo and I would like to share TiVo news and information with others!

Mac News: Head-to-Head: Bill Could Ban iPod, TiVo, Google and More

Mac News: Head-to-Head: Bill Could Ban iPod, TiVo, Google and More: Is it really possible that this law could ban the use of TiVo or even such common things as the Google search engine? I find this hard to believe. Does anybody think this law will be passed? Imagine life without your TiVo :(.

New TiVo recorders on the horizon | CNET News.com

: New TiVo recorders on the horizon | CNET News.com. TiVo is about to release several new DVRs that will allow their users to record a show to a DVD.

Even though I don’t think I would use this feature a lot, I can see how some people would love it…

How TiVo Can Survive

According to this article, How TiVo Can Survive, TiVo is in a bad position. They’ve yet to make a deal with any big cable companies and their agreement with DirectTV may be abandoned.

Is this really possible? Why would anybody want to use one of the cable companie’s DVR over the TiVo. Yeah it might be cheaper however; do you get all the features that you get with a TiVo? I know what you’re thinking, I’m just a geek who loves my TiVo, that’s why I couldn’t imagine living without it. No seriously, I think that TiVo has a great product. I’ve yet to see anything else that can compare. However, in the end it will all come down to what the consumer is willing to pay and what features they really need…
