Just today, TiVo announced that they are offering some promotional prices for the Holiday season. From now until Feb. 3rd, you can get the TiVo service for as low as $8.31/month (if you prepay for 3 years). Along with the discounted service fee, TiVo also announced that existing customers can purchase a an additional TiVo and get a lifetime service subcription for $399 (offer good until Feb. 13th). If you interesting in seeing a summary of what has changed, you might want to head on over to TiVoLovers.
I don’t think I am going to take advantage of the $399 lifetime subscription offer mainly because I’m still concerned about the SDV issue. What do you think? Are you planning on taking advantage of this offer?

Update 06/29 @ 4:36AM: Dave Zatz found a page over at TiVo.com which allows you to transfer your lifetime subscription. The fine print indicates that the offer is available from June 28th to July 23rd and that it is only valid for lifetime subscriptions which were activated before June 15, 2003. As always, you should read the fine print if you try and take advantage of this offer.

A long time reader to this site (Robert Aitchison) recently sent me some interesting feedback that I thought I should share with everybody. According to Robert, TiVo recently sent him an email indicating that he could transfer his lifetime subscription from his Single tuner Series 2 TiVo to a more updated Series 2 dual tuner TiVo. The email doesn’t say if this offer would apply if Robert owned a Series 1 TiVo.
Interesting E-Mail I got today from TiVo. Seems they are offering me the chance to move my lifetime sub (I have 2 Series2 TiVo’s with lifetime) to a new Series2 DT.
Now since both of my TiVo’s are 80 hour already lifetime there really isn’t a lot of incentive for me to take them up on this offer, but if I had a Series1 I suspect it might be a different thing. Of course who knows if the offer is being sent to Series1 customers as well.

Thanks for the TiVo rewards referral Jeff! I really do appreciate it. As always, you can send me a referral by entering my email address (raianoat AT gmail DOT com) when you activate your TiVo.

Both WeaKnees and TiVoLovers are reporting that TiVo now allows you to transfer a lifetime subscription from a DirecTiVo to a Series 3 TiVo. Previously, this transfer option was only available for non-DIRECTV TiVos. According to WeaKnees, this offer is available until 12/31 so you better hurry if you are going to do it.
I haven’t been able to find anything on TiVo’s website that says they are offering this promotion. Somebody on TiVoLover’s website has said that this offer does work however; I would still recommend that you call (866-424-8486) just to make sure that you can in fact transfer your lifetime subscription. I’d hate to see somebody buy a S3 and not be able to transfer the subscription.
Thanks MegaZone!

The folks over at TVWeek.com have posted an excellent interview with Jim Denney. For those of you who don’t know, Jim Denney is the VP of product marketing at TiVo. During the interview, Jim talks mostly about Series 3 TiVo. There’s not much in the interview that we don’t already know but, it’s still a good read.

A couple of people have asked me how they can go about transferring their lifetime subscription to the new Series 3 TiVo. If you want to do this, you can need to purchase your TiVo using this page.
The instructions on the page are as follows:
1. Buy your TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder for $799.99.
2. Once your new box arrives within 7-10 days*, call our VIP line at (866) 424-8486 and we’ll transfer service for $199. You will need your TiVo Service Number** for your new and old box ready to process the transfer.
Don’t forget to put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com). I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks Mike for the news tip.

Like I said yesterday, the Series 3 news just keeps on coming in. This time our buddy Dave Zatz posted several videos and pictures of the Series 3 TiVo in action. I’m not sure how he got his hands on one but the sneaky chump did :).
Here’s a summary of what he found out:
- The unit will cost $799
- No TiVoToGo, Multi-Room Viewing or External Hard Drive just yet
- The service fee remains at $12.95/month or $6.95/month for those individuals who already have a non-bundled unit subscription. Everybody else will have to sign up for a subscription ($155.40 for one year or $299 for two years)
- For $200, you will be able to transfer a lifetime subscription from one of your old TiVos to the Series 3.
- For $299, you will be able to get a three year subscription to the TiVo service
- Units go on sale today at TiVo.com. They will be available in BestBuy and CircuitCity shortly (as of this writing they are not on TiVo.com).
If you haven’t checked out the links above you really need to. Dave provides a lot more information then I wasn’t able to summarize. Nice job Dave!
Don’t forget to put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com). I’d really appreciate it!

Update (09/07/06 @ 6:36 AM EST): TiVoCommunity is going wild with people talking about the same offer. I guess it wasn’t just a rumor. Damn, I wish I had bought the lifetime subscription when I had a chance. $199 doesn’t seem like a bad deal (Thanks MegaZone).
According to a submission on Digg.com, TiVo has said that they will allow you to transfer your lifetime subscription to a Series 3 TiVo for only $199. Until my TiVo receives the message that the author mentioned, I am going to chalk this one up as a rumor.
If this rumor is true, it would definitely be good news. I don’t own a lifetime subscription but I’m sure a lot of people would be happy with this news. Stay tuned for any updates (if there are any).

It looks like TiVo has extended their lifetime subscription option beyond the previously reported on date of 03/16. Here’s a post on TiVoCommunity which announced the extension:
We know that there have been retail advertisements which refer to product lifetime, and there have been requests here for a longer opportunity to purchase lifetime before it’s discontinued. As a result, we have decided to offer product lifetime as a subscription option through 4/15/06, even for those that have purchased since 3/15 (you do have to call to activate lifetime service though, and lifetime is not applicable for systems purchased via a bundle plan).
Thanks TiVo for the extension!
