TiVo Adds More Content To Their TiVoCast Lineup (LX.TV & Golfspan)

TiVoCastAccording to Stephen Mack (Director of TiVoCast Operations), TiVo has added GolfSpan and LX.TV to their growing lineup of online content that you can download and watch directly on your TiVo.

GolfSpan is the world leader in online video golf instruction with 600+ videos from the likes of Jim McLean, Hank Haney & Jimmy Ballard. Update frequency is twice per week (Tuesday and Thursday). The first episode of GolfSpan is “X Factor Power Set Up” (6 minutes).

LX.TV is your exclusive destination for original lifestyle and cultural programming. They will publish the following two programs:

  • Drinks W/LX (Tuesday and Thursday)
  • LX/101 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with TiVoCast, here’s a description taken directly off of TiVo’s website:

TiVoCast is an exciting new feature from TiVo that lets you easily download TV programming to your TiVo DVR via your broadband Internet connection. The programs will appear in your Now Playing List, just like regular television recordings.

While I’m not particularly excited about either of these shows, I’m happy to see that TiVo is adding more content. By far my most favorite show to watch via TiVoCast is c|net. What’s your favorite show?

TiVo Now Offers Lifetime Subscription Transfer From A DirecTiVo To A Series 3 TiVo

Series 3 TiVoBoth WeaKnees and TiVoLovers are reporting that TiVo now allows you to transfer a lifetime subscription from a DirecTiVo to a Series 3 TiVo. Previously, this transfer option was only available for non-DIRECTV TiVos. According to WeaKnees, this offer is available until 12/31 so you better hurry if you are going to do it.

I haven’t been able to find anything on TiVo’s website that says they are offering this promotion. Somebody on TiVoLover’s website has said that this offer does work however; I would still recommend that you call (866-424-8486) just to make sure that you can in fact transfer your lifetime subscription. I’d hate to see somebody buy a S3 and not be able to transfer the subscription.

Thanks MegaZone!

TiVo’s Podcasting Client Vs. FrontRow

FrontRowPaul’s Time Sink has put together an interesting post in which he (I can only assume Paul is a man) compares the experience of listening to podcasts on his TiVo versus Apple’s FrontRow.

With the Series3 installed, we now have two ways to easily listen to podcasts on our main system. We can either use FrontRow on the Mac mini, or use the podcasting application on the TiVo Series3. There are good and bad things with both of these solutions.

Other then in the Apple store, I haven’t really had a chance to play around with FrontRow. I’m interested to hear what other people have to say about this. Is TiVo’s podcasting application better then what FrontRow has to offer?

TiVo Recordings On Your Zune

ZuneFor those of you who own a shiny new Zune, here’s a quick little guide which explains how to transfer your TiVo recordings to the Zune. Basically all you need to do is use TiVo Desktop Plus ($24.95) or regular old TiVo Desktop (free) with a free encoder.

Let me know if this works for you. I’d love to see a video of a TiVo recording being played on a Zune.

TiVo News I Haven’t Had Time To Cover

I’ve been so damn busy lately working on my masters that I haven’t had time to cover a lot of TiVo news and commentary. Here’s a bunch of links for you TiVo fanatics.

EngadgetHD Upgrades Their Series 3 TiVo The Hard Way

WD RE2 500 GB Sata Hard DriveOur friends over at EngadgetHD recently upgraded their Series 3 TiVo by adding a 500 GB drive to the DVR. The newly upgraded TiVo now supports up to 65 hours of HD recording as opposed to 35 hours in a standard Series 3 TiVo.

Instead of just purchasing an upgrade kit from WeaKnees or DVRUpgrade, the folks over at EngadgetHD decided to do it the hard way and upgrade the DVR themselves using Linux and several hacks. Please note that this upgrade isn’t intended for everybody. It requires you to have some Linux skills as well as an understanding of hardware and how it works. I really would hate to see somebody destroy their $800 TiVo..

Let me know if you are a brave enough to try out this upgrade. I’m to cheap to buy a Series 3 TiVo yet alone take the chance that I might destroy it…..

Series 3 TiVo On Sale For $680

TiVo GuyThe newly opened TiVoCommunity Store is offering a 15% discount on any item in the store.  This discount allows you to get a Series 3 TiVo for $680 instead of $800.  While $680 is still a lot of money, it sure is better then $800.  If you want to take advantage of this offer, you need to enter TCDEAL into the coupon code textbox when you checkout.  Apparently the offer ends on Sunday so you better hurry!

The Series 3 TiVo Gets An Upgrade

Series 3 TiVoAccording to TiVoLovers, TiVo has released a minor software upgrade to the Series 3 TiVo (8.0.1a-01-2-648 –> 8.0.1b-01-2-648). It’s uncertain as to what the upgrade includes however, since it’s just a minor change in the version number, I would expect that the upgrade mainly contains bug fixes.

Sorry I Haven’t Said Much Lately

I’ve been extremely busy lately working on my bathroom and other important stuff. That being said, there has been a lot of important TiVo that I haven’t had time to cover.

Yet Another Series 3 TiVo Review

Series 3 TiVoThe folks over at engadgetHD (formerly HDBeat) have put together a wonderful review of the Series 3 TiVo. The review includes one hardware porn pic and a couple screenshots of the TiVo interface.

In case you missed any of the other Series 3 TiVo reviews, here’s a list for your browsing pleasure:

How I wish I had the cash to buy one of these things. I think what I am going to do is wait for Christmas time when the price should be down….
