Deal Of The Day: TiVo’s Movie Offer About To Expire

Remember back in July when I blogged about how TiVo was offering a Series 2 DT DVR along with a free TiVo wireless adapter and a $15 Amazon Unbox gift all for only $97.94? Well, here’s a little reminder that the offer I just mentioned is about to expire. According to TiVo’s website, the offer ends on Sept 7, 2007.

If you decide to take advantage of this offer, I would appreciate it if you put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com) when you activate your TiVo.

Deal Of The Day: Series 2 TiVo Nearly Free After Rebate

TiVo Summer Rebate $170 Off

TiVo’s latest rebate offer (PDF) allows you to get a Series 2 TiVo for next to nothing after rebate. The rebate is valid from July 29th to Sept. 8th and it allows you to receive $150 off of a Dual Tuner TiVo or $170 off a single tuner Series 2 TiVo. Thanks to this rebate, you can now get a dual-tuner 80 hr TiVo for $58.99 ($208.99 - $150) after rebate. A single tuner 80 hr. Series 2 TiVo will set you back $13.00 ($183.00 - $170).

If it were up to me, I would go with the dual-tuner TiVo. Having just one tuner makes it difficult to use your TiVo. With one tuner, you’re constantly having to decide which show to record. Get a dual-tuner TiVo! You’ll be happy you did it.

If you decide to take advantage of this offer, I would appreciate it if you put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT) when you activate your DVR.

Deal Of The Day: Series 2 DT TiVo ($15 Amazon Unbox Credit & Free TiVo Wireless Adapter)

TiVo is getting creative with their offers. This time, TiVo is offering a $15 Amazon Unbox credit plus a free factory refurbished TiVo wireless adapter ($41.78) to anybody who buys a 80 or 180 hr dual tuner Series 2 TiVo from TiVo’s website. The offer ends July 23rd.

This isn’t a bad deal especially if you’ve been wanting to check out Amazon Unbox (which I highly recommend you do). The offer also includes free shipping which is a plus…

If you decide to take advantage of this offer, I would appreciate it if you put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com) when you activate your TiVo.

TiVo To Offer Series 2 To Series 2 DT Lifetime Subscription Transfer?

Update 06/29 @ 4:36AM: Dave Zatz found a page over at TiVo.com which allows you to transfer your lifetime subscription. The fine print indicates that the offer is available from June 28th to July 23rd and that it is only valid for lifetime subscriptions which were activated before June 15, 2003. As always, you should read the fine print if you try and take advantage of this offer.

Lifetime Subscription Transfer

A long time reader to this site (Robert Aitchison) recently sent me some interesting feedback that I thought I should share with everybody. According to Robert, TiVo recently sent him an email indicating that he could transfer his lifetime subscription from his Single tuner Series 2 TiVo to a more updated Series 2 dual tuner TiVo. The email doesn’t say if this offer would apply if Robert owned a Series 1 TiVo.

Interesting E-Mail I got today from TiVo. Seems they are offering me the chance to move my lifetime sub (I have 2 Series2 TiVo’s with lifetime) to a new Series2 DT.

Now since both of my TiVo’s are 80 hour already lifetime there really isn’t a lot of incentive for me to take them up on this offer, but if I had a Series1 I suspect it might be a different thing. Of course who knows if the offer is being sent to Series1 customers as well.

Deal Of The Day: $180 Off A Dual-Tuner Series 2 TiVo

Effective today, TiVo is now offering a $220 rebate for the standard Series 2 TiVo and a $180 rebate for the Dual-Tuner and DVD burning TiVos.

Here’s a snippet taken directly from the rebate form:

  • Choose eligible TiVo® Series2™rebate amount for purchases between November 5, 2006 and December 31, 2006
  • $180 TiVo® Series 2™ Dual Tuner Rebate (valid only on TiVo Service Numbers (TSN) starting with 264,275, 565, 590, 595, 649)
  • $220 TiVo® Series 2™ Rebate (valid only on TiVo Service Numbers (TSN) starting with 540)
  • Activate TiVo® service at www.tivo.com/activate by January 31, 2007.
  • Service must be active for at least 30 days. Service terms and restrictions apply.

This is the best deal I’ve seen in a long time. The rebate form isn’t up on TiVoRebates.com however, Weaknees has a copy of the rebate form which I’m sure you can use. Unfortunately, the offer doesn’t allow you to get a rebate off of the Series 3 TiVo but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up seeing a rebate offer before the start of the holiday shopping season.

If you do decided to take advantage of this offer, I would appreciate it if you put me down as your referrer (raianoat@gmail.com).

Mom’s New Series 2 Dual Tuner TiVo

Dual Tuner Series 2 TiVo For My MomThanks to all the wonderful feedback I received on this post, I’ve concluded that my Mom’s TiVo has a bad power supply.  Instead of trying to buy a power supply to fix the problem, I convinced my Mom that she should pick up a dual tuner TiVo.  I really think my Mom is going to like being able to record more then one show at once.  The box only costs $100 after a $150 mail in rebate.

Now all I need to is set it up and get her season passes reconfigured….

Series 2 Dual Tuner TiVo With 1 Year Sub For $155.40

Series 2 Dual Tuner TiVoFrom now until August 31st, TiVo.com is running a special whereby you can get an 80 hour Series 2 Dual Tuner TiVo with a one year subscription for only $155.40!  According to the website, this saves you $404.40!
If the Dual Tuner TiVo doesn’t interest you, you might want to pick up a “regular” Series 2 TiVo for $83.40 ($375.40 savings).

I personally am not going to get one however, this really is a good deal.  If you’re in the market of a Series2 Dual Tuner DVR, now may be a good time to purchase one or two for that matter.

Is The Dual Tuner TiVo Too Little Too Late?

Dual Tuner Series 2 TiVoIs the dual-tuner TiVo too little too late? Ed Bott seems to think so in his posted titled: “Who does TiVo think will buy its dual-tuner boxes?“.

Ed has pinpointed some serious limitations in the dual-tuner TiVo namely that it doesn’t easily allow for dual tuner digital cable recording and that it doesn’t support over the air (ota) recording. In my opinion, the dual-tuner TiVo is more of a entry level dual-tuner box which is meant for people who simply want to record analog cable. As I said before, the dual-tuner TiVo is a great solution for somebody like my Mom who doesn’t subscribe to digital cable and who doesn’t care about HDTV. Granted the dual-tuner TiVo isn’t cutting edge however, it does fill a gap in TiVo’s product. A similar media center pc would cost a lot more and for somebody who simply wants to record two analog channels at once the dual-tuner TiVo is a great solution.

I understand that Ed is a tech geek like me but, lets not forget that there are people out there who don’t want cutting edge technology. For this type of person the dual-tuner TiVo is a great solution. If you want more capabilities then the DT TiVo has to offer you might want to consider waiting on the Series3 TiVo. The Series3 TiVo is supposed to be a dream come true for anybody who is geek like me.
