Dave Zatz alerted me to a post on TiVoCommunity in which TiVoJerry (a TiVo employee) stated that TiVo has randomly started to roll out a software update for HD DVR customers. The update (version 11.0d) is intended to fix pixelation issues that some Verizon FiOS customers have experienced. TiVoJerry also mentioned that the update may improve video quality for customers who are using a provider other than Verizon.
Let me know when you get the update. I’d love to know whether or not it fixes any pixelation issues that you might be having….
We just started rolling 11.0d to a random set of HD DVRs in the field last night. The main intent of this SW is to reduce pixelation for FiOS customers. Results have been extremely favorable. The changes made may even improve video quality with other providers as well.
This begins the CS Ramp evaluation of the SW and what’s effect on our call centers might be. I review all cases logged against these units for a couple of weeks before we deem it acceptible to send to all HD DVRs. Barring any unforeseen need to hold it back, it goes out to the entire population very quickly, so there is no need to for a priority list.

The CS/test rollout began almost two weeks ago…you guys need to stay on top of things!
Ardent TiVo wonk bkdtv received the upgrade about a week ago. Prior to that he had to use some attenuation to reduce the macroblocking/pixeization that he was seeing w/FIOS. He recently posted that after he received the v11.0d upgrade he was able to remove all attenuation and that the PQ has been perfect since.
We have FIOS and have never seen any issues on our TiVo’s but this will certainly be welcomed by those that have.
sorry
. Glad to hear it is working for some people!
Received the v11.0d update last night on our TiVo Series3 and our TiVo HD…RS Corrected and Uncorrected errors are zero and signal strength is 100% for all channels. So far so good!
I have FIOS HD and I’m interested in purchasing one of the refurbished TIVO HD ($199.99) plus a 1TB Western Digital DVR Expander. Can I record programs on the TIVO/expander and transfer to DVD? can I still use the FIOS topbox with this arrangement. Thanks for your replies, I’m a newbie re TIVO and just want to make sure I can make everything work before I purchase. Thanks.
To answer your questions:
- Yes, if the programs are not copy protected. (At this time VZ FIOS does not copy protect any programming.)
- No to the set top box. (Unless you want both connected to your TV)
Probably best to visit the TiVo Community Forum and in particular these two areas for more details:
