NYTimes.com is reporting that TiVo and Best Buy have formed a partnership. According to the Times, BestBuy has agreed to market TiVo DVRs in its 1,100 United States stores. In return, TiVo has agreed to incorporate advertisements for Best Buy directly within the TiVo interface.
TiVo will develop a version of its set-top box, to be sold in Best Buy stores, that will let the retailer advertise its products and services to TiVo subscribers on their home televisions.
Although financial details about this partnership have not been released, Best Buy has said that they will finance an effort to bring TiVo software to their brand of HDTVs (Insignia). Last but not least, TiVo also stated that they plan on bringing Napster to TiVo!
As part of the deal, the companies also said that Best Buy would finance an effort to bring TiVo’s software and search tools to Best Buy’s own brand of consumer electronics, like its Insignia high-definition TVs.
