I have a series one Tivo, been cranking away all this time, and it has suddenly started recording programs all by itself. Sometimes ten or twenty a day! I've tried rebooting it, to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a remedy? Thanks, Vince.

How long is this offer good for? I'm in the middle of a entertainment system overhaul, but want to put this component off until next month... let everything else settle down first....

Hmmm...I am getting married soon and called recently to notify TiVo that I would be shutting off one of my TiVos. I told the rep that eventually the 2nd TiVo would be converted to an HD model, but for now it would just be staying as a Series 2. She offered me a new TiVoHD for $99 and said I could continue my "grandfathered" pricing of $6.95 on the box even after the other box went away. I questioned this, saying that there would not be a MRD - no 2nd TiVo. She said it would still be at this price. I'll see if she was telling the truth on this part. I was prepared to pay $12.95/mo but the $99 for the NEW unit was a nice surprise.

Yes, I agree, very disappointing that they are not letting the lifetime service transfer to the new box. I would even be willing to pay a transfer fee (of about $50). Also, I'm someone that would happily buy the refurbish model for $199 anyway, so it does not seem like TIVO is really extending much here. In fact they are probably just getting rid of inventory to get ready for the Tivo S4. Speaking of which, anyone one know when the S4 might be due out?

For those who would upgrade 2nd or 3rd TiVos, this is a fictitious upgrade because TiVo will not let you combine discounts. So you might be able to save $100 upfront on a TiVo, but you are NOT eligible for a Multi-Service Discount (MSD). Ignoring that you can't transfer you Lifetime Service even with an upgrade fee, you must pay $12.99 per month for service instead of the $9.99 with a new box. After 3 years, you have now spent MORE money than if you just bought without the promotion.

The upgrade is based on the length of the service on that TiVo. I get short changed. I have a Series 1 TiVo from May 2000. I had lifetime on it which I transferred to a Series 3 when they first came out. Since this then created new service on my old Series 1, they see it as less than 3 years and only offer $50. Not sure if I'd upgrade anyway - don't want to pay the price right now and plus wondering what the "Series 4" will bring. Would be nice to have 4 HD tuners to use though.

Like Michael said, TTG is available on HD models. The problem is that some cable providers have enabled the do not copy on nearly all digital content. This is the issue i currently have with TWC in my area.

TivoToGo still works, as long as the copy flag isn't set, which I have only ever seen set on HD recordings from premium channels. I can get TivoToGo fine for non-premium HD channels. Of course, that may change based on cable providers, but the no-copy flag should only be on premiums.

Comcast just announced that they're switching us over to digital only cable in October, so this comes at the perfect time for me to replace my series 2 DT that still has a year left on the 3-year service plan.

Too bad I can't transfer my lifetime subscription. I possibly would have upgraded my 140-series 2 box if I could have. Guess it will just have to wait for Series 4/tru2way.
