weaKnees has been shipping 2 Terabyte TiVo DVRs for quite a while now however, earlier today they announced that they’re now shipping TiVo HD XLs with one internal 2TB drive.
OK – we’ve been selling some 2 TB TiVos for a while, but not like this one. This one has ALL of the storage inside the unit, and it’s all on one 2 TB drive.
I may be stating the obvious however, this device allows you to record a ton of content. According to weaKnees’ screenshots, a 2TB drive provides 2777 hours worth of SD content or 318 hours of HD content! Unfortunately, all of this recording space will cost you a lot of money. At the time of this writing weaKnees is charging $999.99.
The size is about the same capacity-wise as our 2 TB units that come with one internal terabyte drive and one external terabyte drive. And, sorry to say, due to the cost of these 2 TB drives, it costs a bit more. But you can’t beat the advantages.

I believe that a hacked Linux kernel is required to access a single 2 TB drive. I wonder how they are doing this. PROM mod + modified kernel? If so, I wonder if it will handle software upgrades.
Maybe the TiVo XL uses a different Linux kernel than the other HD models.
That’s about what I paid for my Series3 1TB from weaKnees 2 years ago
I just received the following info from WeaKnees. Looks like you can save some money if you are interested…
I believe that the offer is good until 07/10/09.
