[...] Just today, I received a message letting me know that my Series 3 and TiVo HD have received the update. Other than one menu being renamed, it doesn’t look like a lot has changed however, I suspect that this update was put in place in order to get HD DVRs ready for the much anticipated Netflix partnership.
I sooooo can't wait for this. I'd been keeping my Series 3 in a box until my S2DT died, but this announcement totally makes it worth unpacking early!

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13515_3-10078091-26.html
Netflix is calling this a "soft launch" since it is only rolling out such a small number of videos for HD streaming. The move mostly serves to stake a claim in the HD streaming market as opposed to being a full offering. Contrary to what others are reporting, HD streaming will be available on all streaming devices when it premieres with the New Xbox Experience. That means that the Roku, LG, and Samsung boxes will all be able to stream these HD movies, in addition to the Xbox 360. The PC and Mac based versions of Netflix, will not, however, be able to stream HD immediately. In addition, streaming in HD will require a large amount of bandwidth. Netflix estimates the requirement being in the 8-10 Mbps range.

This is great news! I was excited about the Xbox NXE which includes Netflix, but this TiVo+Netflix is even better.. kinda.. using the TiVo is more convenient since it is already always-on and probably easier to use than navigating through the Xbox (keeping wife in mind here). But I heard the Xbox has Netflix HD. I wonder if HD will be available on TiVo-Netflix.
