Time Warner SDV Tuning Adapter

The WeaKnees blog has alerted me to a new page on Time Warner’s website which is supposed to provide information on how to obtain a SDV tuning adapter.  Although some people have been successful in obtaining information from this page, my zip code (13413) simply forwards me to my local Time Warner’s website without any mention of SDV.  If you’re a TWC customer you might want to try and enter your zip code.  I’d be interested to hear if anybody is successful in obtaining a tuning adapter from Time Warner.

Time Warner Cable is launching Switched Digital Video (SDV) in some of our markets.

This exciting new technology allows us to bring you many additional services, including new HD channels and HD versions of popular existing channels.

About SDV
Channels delivered using Switched Digital Video (“SDV”) are only transmitted over our cable system on an as-needed basis. As a result, SDV uses system capacity more efficiently than the traditional, always-on method. This frees up bandwidth and allows Time Warner Cable to offer its customers additional digital channels and HD digital channels. Some existing services will be delivered using SDV in order to make additional bandwidth available. Once channels are switched, they will no longer be available to devices like TiVo, unless you have a Tuning Adapter.

  • I had also seen that blog post, and using my ZIP code of 91786 was successful in getting the next page to “pre-order”. Submitted my information and received an email stating that TWC is working on finishing a high quality product, but they’ll let me know when they are ready. So here’s hoping…

  • I can confirm (I think) it’s available in Albany, NY. I did get a screen that had an 800 number and an “order” link. Zip code 12095.

We have SDV here in Austin, and have had it for well over a year. I put in my zip (78734) and it took me to the pre-order page. Hopefully they will followup with something. I am not too optomistic. They are probably juts gauging how many the need to buy, then they will determine how much to charge us.

I will, however, give the guy a beer when/if they ever show up with one at my house.

  • [...] I’m sure you’re aware, there has been a lot of SDV news as of late.  Just today, the FCC announced that they’re going to impose a fine on Time [...]

Worked for me in Austin Texas (78746)

Total BS, IMO. Time Warner in San Diego actually has the nerve to openly state that they “don’t have any information on the tuning adapter”. Same day, different rep, “it’s been discussed but no decision on availability has been made”.

I really believe that many TW markets are simply going to wait until legal action is taken. Until then, most of us will speak with reps who are instructed to play dumb.

I called TWC San Diego today to ask about the tuning adapter, since it’s been 6 months since they started to switch to SDV! Was ready for the run around and the usual excuses, but I was shocked to hear them tell me that the tuning adapters will be available on March 18!
After I recovered from my near coronary, I asked if I would be due a refund for all the months I paid for channels that I didn’t receive. Of course they said that it was “my fault” since I switched equipment. I didn’t, they did, have had a TiVo since 2000, but that didn’t surprise me at all. Is the FCC going to force all the TWC providers to refund payments, or just the localities that actually sued them?
I’m not naive enough to believe that I’ll ever get my money back, but will just be happy if I can watch Formula 1 again and other stuff on Speed!

I was able to submit my information on the Time Warner page that covers western North Carolina, but have no idea when they will be available. I’m worried that some of the other responses are correct. They may just be getting a feel for the level of interest before they actually do anything.

Pre-order successful (w/ email confirmation) in Columbus OH. My local techs and supervisors have no awareness of this, though.

I pre-ordered mine in San Antonio (78216) about 2 weeks ago and today I got a call that I can pick it up.
A coworker got it already and is happy.

    We shall see!

  • [...] tell, I’m extremely excited.  I’ve been waiting for this adapter for a long time so, I’m glad to see it finally come to fruition.  Let me know if you have any questions or [...]

I just got mine in Albany, NY and it works pretty good. Got a letter last week that they had arrived and to pick one up. One of the services centers was out of them so I had to go to the main TWC site.

News flash!!!! San Diego TWC victims can pick up tuning adapters starting March 18, 2009!
