TiVo Partners With RIM (Plans To Offer TiVo Enabled Applications On Your Blackberry)

Yesterday, TiVo announced a partnership with RIM (the maker of the Blackberry).  According to the press release, TiVo and RIM plan on offering a software application which allows you to schedule recordings on your TiVo via your Blackberry (think Verizon TiVo partnership).

The new relationship brings TiVo and RIM together to develop a variety of mobile entertainment services that marry RIM’s leading BlackBerry® smartphones with the content delivered to consumers through the Emmy-winning TiVo® service.  Initially, BlackBerry smartphone users will gain the convenience of being able to discover what shows are on and schedule television recordings while away from the living room and on the go.

At first glance this seems kind of boring however, the release contains one sentence which perked my interest.

Future collaboration between the companies will focus on software applications that further simplify mobile access to video content.

I’m not exactly sure what this means however, it seems to me like TiVo and RIM are planing on provding a number of great applications.  Stay tuned…

Now if there was an iPhone app, this would be very interesting. Hmmm…. there is!…. it’s called http://Tivo.com/tco from the Safari web browser

All that is really needed is better interface from Tivo for their online schedule. Today it includes channels I don’t receive, plus I can’t show just my favourites.

A really cool online tv listing that works with Tivo is http://Zap2It.com … includes season pass and record features, plus ability to tailor the listing to suit my needs. And it’s free, and works with Canadian and US TV lineups.

    - take care, eh! -
