TiVo To Release A DirecTV Enabled HD DVR
Just yesterday, TiVo announced that they’ve formed a partnership with DirecTV. According to the press release, TiVo will release a “full featured” DirecTV enabled HD DVR sometime in the second half of 2009.
….The product will support the latest TiVo and DIRECTV features and services, including TiVo’s Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone. TiVo will develop the new HD DVR for an expected launch in the second half of 2009.
This announcement really has me excited because I’ve always been interested in getting all of the HD channels that DirecTV has to offer however, the lack of a “up to date” TiVo DVR has kept me from making the switch.
To be perfectly honest, I kind of suprised by this announcement. For quite some time now, TiVo has had a rocky relationship with DirecTV. I’m really glad to see that both companies have reestablished their relationship and that DirecTV has come to grips with the fact that their HD DVR isn’t nearly as good as a TiVo branded DVR.
Thanks for the news tip Jesse!

This is news to me. Now maybe I won’t cancel DirecTV altogether. I have had nothing but problems with DirecTV hardware and programming ever since switching to HD. Their hardware sucks. I’v cancelled my movie services, extra receivers, and most recently my HD service altogether because of faulty and unreliable service. Was just about ready to switch to Dish or Cable when I came across this.
