When I made the switch to TiVO, I also made the switch to OTA only. In the past I’ve had DirecTiVo and a Cable DVR. But can’t beat the free HD OTA TV and low multi-year cost of the standalone TiVo service. Between this and NetFlix, we are content.
I was pleasantly surprised that my antenna is Digital TV ready — so no need for me to run out and get a coverter box for the February 19, 2009 cutover. I think TiVo could promote this more.
My new TiVo HD DVR connected to my over the air antenna has allowed me to dump my satellite subscription and save over $100 a month. Not only am I able to record my favorite over the air tv programs, I use the TiVo WiFi adapter to download rented movies and tv shows not broadcast over the air.
Now I control what I watch and how much I spend, not the satellite company.
