Does The TiVo Glo Remote Eat Up Batteries?
Does your glo remote go through a lot of batteries? It seems like every couple of months I am having to replace the batteries in my glo remote. Just yesterday, I had to replace the batters because my TiVo wouldn’t respond at all to the remote. Am I the only one who has noticed this issue or are you experiencing the same problem? The next time I have to replace batteries I’ll come back to this post and update it so that I know how long the batteries actually last.

My TiVo remote is a battery hog. I make it about 3 - 4 months before having to put new ones in. There is a way that you can turn off the glow feature, but I really like being able to see the buttons when its dark. I bet if you did turn off the glow, that it would at least double the life of the batteries.

The glo for our downstairs TiVo has had the same batts for around a year now. However, that is the livingroom TiVo, and doesn’t have a whole lot of chance to ‘glow’ (the lights are usually on). In the media room (and bedroom), where it is generally darker, the glo remotes do go through a lot more battery, so I would suspect battery usage is related to ‘glo-ing’ time

I have to change it once every few months and I use my TiVo quite often. I’m sure it has something to do with all of the orange backlights, but it makes the remote look nice. Rechargeable batteries definitely make this less of a problem.
One other small problem with the remote is some of the black is coming off of the buttons around the edges, making a spotty white outline. Why not just make them black throughout?

Yeah, I go through batteries every month or two, but that’s what rechargeable batteries are for.

My glow remote doesn’t seem to eat batteries. I get 6 months or so out of each set, which I don’t consider bad. And I use the remote a lot for browsing rhapsody, the photo’s and slide show applications, not to mention having a ton of music choice music videos that I go through and play.

I noticed the same problem with my remote. They were dying every month or so, so I turned off the backlight (I never watch tv in total darkness) and the batteries seem to last longer now.

Odd…my Glo Remote is still on the original batteries from Christmas 2006.

Our Glo Remote is still using the original batteries (about 14 months old) and we use the heck out of it. I have never really bothered to figure out when the glo lights come on and when they don’t but we almost always watch TV with some lights on in the room so if that makes a difference, it could explain why ours have lasted so long.

My regular Tivo remote just had its batteries replaced about 3 or 3.5 months after buying it. I know they were generics, but that didn’t seem like a lot of time. Regardless we just switched to a Logitech Harmony remote with rechargeable, so it’s not an issue.
