pTiVoX is really great software. It has a lot of features. Checkout some of the streambaby integration. This allows you to “stream” videos to your TiVo without having to first transfer from to your DVR.

one more thing…you have enabled the “video” feature inside of TiVo Desktop correct? Hold down “command” when launching TiVo Desktop.

i had to approve the comment. I took a look at the log and I don’t see anything out of the ordinary? are you saying that you see some of your recordings? I don’t have any .tivo files handy however, I can transfer one over night to see if my TiVo can see it. I normally use pyTiVoX for this feature and I transcode all my content to H.264 mp4s…

Check the “Enable Debugging” checkbox and set the level to 20. You may need to “stop” and start tivo desktop in order for the change to take effect.

When I do that on the bottom of the tivo desktop there is a checkbox for enable debugging…there is a box for “level (1-20) and log: which shows where the log file will be sent. do I click on debugging??? and then what else do I need to do?

so you’re saying that some of the .tivo files are showing up but, not all of them? that is strange. you might want to turn on logging to see if you see anything (enable logging in TiVo Desktop by holding down the option key and then clicking on the preference pane).

DOH — the video folder is in “NOW PLAYING” not in “Photos, Music, and More” — I still don’t see my video file in there — but feel confident at least that the my computer and my Tivo are communicating and will be able to send video one I encode properly…

Michael — I am having the same prob — I just bought a new Series 3 from Costco — I used the command line option listed above — and while I see the video tab in TivoDesktop, and I’ve converted video using VisualHub and it is in the right folder, I do not see it appear on the Tivo. I do see my music published, but not video. Has Tivo disabled this feature?? Are the ones who currently have it running the lucky ones and all the late adopters just screwed???? I am desperate to figure this problem out — can anyone else help?

I have a MBP and a Tivo Series 3 HD. I have been desperately trying to transfer movies on my mac to watch on my TiVo without luck. I can easily transfer TiVo shows to my Mac. I can easily view photos and music on that are on my mac on my TiVo. I’ve done all the above in terms of enabling videos to be published from my mac. And I’ve even put MPEG2 (nonconverted) movies originally from my TiVo on my mac to try to transfer back to TiVo, and I can’t because my mac doesn’t even show up on the TiVo network (except for photos and music). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

FYI – Unfortunately, the author of VisualHub has elected to shutdown his company and that means no more VisualHub. Existing customers are urged to contact the developer via email to obtain the latest version.

That said, the TivoGoBack utility will no longer be available. But fear not, young TiVo Mac Addicts, you don’t need the utility to pernamently turn on the Video tab in TiVo Desktop on a Mac.

Open Terminal
Enter the following command and press enter

defaults write com.tivo.desktop FileVideo -dict-add VideoUIEnabled -bool true

Stop the TiVo Desktop under System Preferences and restart it. Close System Preferences and open it back up and double-click the TiVo Desktop and there is the hidden Video tab!

Now if you should mess up, delete the ~/Library/Preferences/com.tivo.desktop file and restart the TiVo Desktop in System Preferences and then this time try copying and pasting the “defaults write…” line above. Rinse Repeat by restarting the TiVo Desktop and away you go.

Now go google for VisualHub (the author might open source it, if we’re lucky) and if no longer found, the ye shall continue to google for alternative mpeg2 converters.

Ooops, I figured it out.
I didn’t realize that because the network was reconfigured, I had to enter the password for it into TiVo again.
I’ve done this and now my computer shows up on the TiVo menu.

I’ve been using TiVo Desktop with Tivogoback.app on a Powerbook running 10.4.11 successfully for a while, but I have an repeating problem that this time I’m unable to jiggle to a solution.

I had to reset my home network yesterday, and while I’ve got my computers back on line with the Airport Extreme router, my TiVo no longer sees the Powerbook that serves it with downloaded video content. I have made sure TiVo Desktop is on, I have started TiVoGoBack over and over (between restarts of the computer), and yet: nothing. In the sharing part of Systems Prefs I have TiVo Desktop enabled in the firewall tab, with TCP ports 2190, 5353, 8101 opened, and 8101 opened on UDP. (This was the setting I had before, when it worked.)

I don’t know what else to twiddle. Any suggestions please?
