Argh!!! I was very excited until I realized my lifetime subscription on my Series2 Sony SVR-3000 Tivo was purchased September 2004 not 2003 so I am not eligible. That stinks, I was ready to buy two TivoHD boxes and transfer the lifetime onto one and get the discounted rate on the second one. No such luck….
I agree, TiVo is being really unfair here. I didn’t do it last year because $800 for the S3 (when it was first released) + $200 for lifetime service transfer was just too much money. I have no problem with them offering a deal to lifetime subscribers with older boxes, but how about showing some love to the rest of us? It’s not right.
[...] came across this post – Transfer Lifetime Subscription To The TiVo HD – and thought it was worth sharing. I hope you find it interesting too and take the time to read [...]
This stinks… stinks… stinks… I too was ready to buy the HD Tivo, but I can’t transfer my lifetime subscription. What is TiVo thinking? My lifetime service started in 2004 so it seems I’m SOL. Dang…
Their loosing my money, and I end up telling people that they were good, but suck now for their business practices…
I spoke with TiVo this morning because I just bought a Series 3 the day that they announced this promotion. I think it’s extremely annoying that they will not honor this for TiVo Series 3 units as well as the TiVoHD units. In addition, they say you have to buy it through them. Amazon is underpricing them, sometimes significantly. It is unfortunate that they can continue to abuse long term customers.
A blogger in today’s NY Times (10-20-07,David Pogue’s column) claims he only has a 90-minute window in which to watch a hockey game on his Series-3, before it is erased. He says it has to do with copyright protection built into the cable-card. I called TiVo and the rep said that was not so. Does anyone know of this? I want to upgrade from my series-2 to a TiVo hi-def, but not under those conditions.
TiVo is one of the most difficult companies to do business with. I want to send them money, and they refuse it. its no wonder they can’t become profitable.
I have a series-2 box and want to take advantage of their offer to upgrade to an HD box and transfer my lifetime service. I want to buy the 300-hour box @ $599, but they say no. I can only buy the 80-hour box at $299. They’re refusing 300 dollars of revenue. One has to wonder about the people at the helm.
It’s called Macrovision. I’ve yet to see a program that only allowed you to watch it in a 90 min window. If I were you I wouldn’t worry about it….
