Deal Of The Day: Make $80 On A 80 HR. Series 2 Dual-Tuner TiVo
Updated: Take a look at this post for more information…
Troy on TiVo turned me onto a great deal that Big Lots is currently offering. While supplies last, you can actually make $80 (after mail in rebate) by purchasing a 80 hr. dual-tuner Series 2 TiVo. That’s right, Big Lots is offering a Series 2 dual tuner TiVo for $69.99. After you receive money back from the $150 Fall Rebate (PDF), you will
actually make $80 ($69.99 – $150)!
Both of my local Big Lots have TiVos in stock. On my way home, I went ahead and pickup two DVRs so that I can replace two of my existing single-tuner TiVos. I also told one of my close friends about the deal and he purchased two DVRs as well.
If you plan on taking advantage of this offer, it would be nice if you gave Troy the referral credit (tpullis at yahoo dot com).

Just want to clarify…the fall rebate is for $150, not 130. Thanks for sending referrals my way. This is the cheapest price I’ve ever seen for the Dual Tuner. It’s also nice as it has a built in ethernet port, no need for the wireless USB adapter (although you can get one if need be).
Good catch! I meant to write $150 but for some reason I didn’t
. The post has been updated….
Guys,
I was looking at the rebate form and wondering if the serial numbers of the BigLots Tivos have been verified to be ones eligible for the rebate. The form says:
[valid only on TiVo Service Numbers (TSN) starting with 264, 275, 565, 590, 595, 649]
Do the ones available from BigLots have those SNs? I just can’t believe this, you know the old saying “If it looks to good to be true…”
I just need a little confirmation so I can stop salivating and start buying.
I’m really tempted to replace my normal series 2’s but does this mean I have to cancel my current contracts and get new ones? And how can you get 2 rebates?
I called the the number on the rebate form and the person I talked to said that you can submit 2 rebated per household. I didn’t, however ask about canceling my current service. I have two series 2’s that I want to replace, but I have the grandfathered $12.95/6.95 price structure that I do not want to lose.
If they make me sign a new contract with a new monthly rate, it would be a deal breaker.
I think we will have to ask Tivo about that. It doesn’t wound like a rebate “flavored” question.
I just talked to Tivo customer service and here’s the deal…
I would have to cancel my current service ($12.95/per month for 1st $6.95/month for the second, no contract) and sign up for a new 3 year contract for $12.95 monthly (or one of the prepaid plans) for the first DT Tivo. Then at that point, I could activate the second Tivo under the “MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT” which would $6.00 off of the monthly price, in this case $12.95, making my monthly outlay the same, but locking me in for three years with a $200 early termination fee.
So, ye learned TivoBlog readers, is being locked in for three years worth getting basically $160.00 from Tivo for upgrading my two series 2, single tuner boxes?
A quandary, no? New hardware (I love new toys!), new functionality (dual tuners are cool), and 160 bucks in the bank on the plus side. On the negative side (to men at least)
a new three year commitment.
What is a guy to do?
Maceo, I hear ya. One idea would be to pre-purchase 3 years on the main recorder for $299, but offset it with the $160 you profited. So total out-of-pocket is $139.
Then, for the next 3 years, you pay only $6.95/month for the 2nd recorder.
So for an up-front cost of $139, you save yourself $12.95 for the next 3 years, and you have 2 brand new TiVos. You break even in just over 10 months, and start profiting after that.

i went to 3 big lots this afternoon (actually 6 big lots, but 3 of them were going out of business and had nothing in the store) and all of them were sold out!
that smilie should have been a frownie
The rebate does apply. The serial number on my new S2DT starts with: 649.
I’m not sure how this works. I’m not in contract so it’s not an issue for me. Anybody know how this works?
Bryan and Alex,
If I understand it correctly you can have your current contract transferred over to the new boxes. But, because there wouldn’t be a new activation, you wouldn’t be eligible for the rebate. That is how I understand it YMMV.
Oh yeah, I did pick up two Tivo boxes at a BigLots (they had three). I just still haven’t decided on how I want to activate them yet (prepaid or monthly). Even with out the rebate two DT boxes for ~$150.00 ain’t bad at all.
