Anybody Want A Broken TiVo (Part 2)?
Yesterday I received an email from Brian letting me know that he had a broken Series 2 TiVo that he was willing to donate to a new home. Here’s a copy of the feedback that Brian sent me:
I saw your post about giving away a broken TiVo, and I’m wondering, might you be able to find a home for mine? I’ve got a Series 2 (I even think it’s got a month or two of service left on it) whose Hard drive was failing and which we replaced with a Series 3. I’d hate to take it to the electronics recycling place if someone out there wanted it to play around with. If you know someone who would, or care to ask your readers if they would, or have a suggestion for a better place for me to ask my question, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
If you’d like Brian’s TiVo, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. I am going to randomly select a winner just like I did for my Mother’s TiVo. All comments must be submitted by Wednesday @ 12:00AM EDT. Since Brian was nice enough to donate his TiVo, I am going to cover the cost of shipping the unit anywhere in the continental United States.

I’d be very interested in that - I have a spare Series2 hard drive lying around that I could drop right in. If it is just a hard drive problem, it should start right up.

I would be very interested as well.

I would still like a spare to rebuild (use for parts) to fix the mom-in-laws old Series 1 … makes everybody happy

I would love to get my hack on with this Series 2 to replace my old Series 1 that is still working away. Series 2 would allow me to get busy with some serious TiVo-To-Go and all the other goodies that are not available on my lowly Series 1.

I have been using a computer based pvr system for about a year and would love to ditch the computer based system for a tivo. IT would be fun to put a little work into it as I would probably have ended up replacing the hard drive anyhow. Looken for my first tivo experience, thanx.

I would be interested as well. My first Tivo was a 14hr unit that I had to buy direct from Tivo back in early 2000 and I’ve never looked back. A series 2 on our basement television would be just the ticket for my daughter. She love’s the Tivo Guy :-).

PLEASE DO NOT PICK ME AS A WINNER!
Does anyone want my Series 1 TiVo? It works, it’s a non-upgraded Sony model…I replaced it with both a DirecTiVo and a Series 3, so I have zero use for it. It’s literally just collecting dust.
No service, though, I transferred that to my S3.

I’d like to re-incarnate that Series 2!

My Mother in law has been wanting a tivo ever since she saw mine last year. I’d love to be able to put my spare series 2 hdd in this and surprise her.

I’d like to put my name down again. I tried for your mother’s TiVo. Considering my name is Brian too, I would be the best choice for the TiVo - he (or she) would never know he had a new owner.

JimK, if you need someone to offload an old Series 1 on, I’m your man (sorry that this is my second post in this column). Just go to my webpage and you’ll see my email if you want to work with me to drop that old S1 box on.

The winner is….Andrew.
Andrew, I’ll contact you later tonight to get your mailing address. Once I receive this information, I will forward it to Brian so that he can ship the DVR to you. Good luck!
