David Pogue Grades TiVo’s Internet Features

Here’s a link to a NYTimes podcast in which David Pogue grades many of the internet features which are available on the Series 2 & Series 3 TiVo.

How To Remove Commercials From Your TiVoToGo Recordings (Windows Only)

VideoReDoDVRPlayground has put together a great step by step tutorial on how to remove commercials from TiVoToGo records. Essentially what you’ll need is a network connected Series 2 TiVo, VideoReDo ($49.99) and TiVoDesktop.

Let’s begin with what you’ll need to make this work:

  1. A Series 2 or later TiVo. Series 1 and the old DirecTV TiVo’s don’t support TiVoToGo. But no worries… If this is you, then you just have to modify your TiVo, and follow a slightly different set of instructions.
  2. A network adapter to connect your TiVo to your home network. TiVo offers installation instructions for setting up either a wired or a wireless network connection to your TiVo DVR.
  3. A copy of the TiVo Desktop software, which is available free from TiVo here.
  4. A copy of the VideoReDo Plus software. You can download a free trial or purchase the registered version for $49.99.

I think I might try this out later this month when I have travel for work.

TiVo Rewards Is Great!

TiVo RewardsJust the other day I received this email:

Congratulations! Your friend William credited you with a TiVo® service activation.

No need to lift a finger. Your TiVo Rewards™ account has automatically been credited with 5,000 TiVo Points.

Just thought you’d like to know. Plus, it gives us an excellent excuse to thank you for being the wonderful TiVo Rewards™ member that you are! We appreciate your support.

To review your TiVo Rewards™ account summary, browse rewards or redeem TiVo Points, simply sign in at www.tivo.com/rewards anytime.

Thanks William for putting me down as your referral! I really do appreciate it.

If you haven’t signed up for the TiVo Rewards program you really should. In a little over two years I’ve already received two items from the program including an iPod Mini and a 140 hr TiVo. In order to get these items, all I had to do was spread the word about how great TiVo is.

If anybody else would like to put me down as their referrer, I’d be more then happy to accept it (raianoat AT gmail DOT com).

Another Day Another TiVoCast Addition

TasteTV LogoToday, TiVo added TasteTV to their TiVoCast lineup. TasteTV is just one of several shows that TiVo has recently added. Apparently somebody at TiVo is working hard :).  To see what other programs are available via TiVoCast, head on over to TiVo’s website.

Let me know what you think about TasteTV.  I’m plan on subscribing to it.  Are you going to subscribe?
