Announcing The TiVo Planet Dashboard Widget
I just upload a simple OS X dashboard widget that I created with Yahoo Pipes and Apple’s dashcode development environment. The widget displays content from several of the top TiVo related websites/blogs. Currently the widget subscribes to the following websites/blogs.
- TiVoBlog
- ZatzNotFunny(only TiVo content)
- TiVoLovers
- Zeigen.com (only TiVo content)
- DavisFreeberg.com (only TiVo content)
- TiVo’s Official Blog (even though it isn’t updated that often)
- TVSquad (only TiVo content)
One of the nice things about using Yahoo Pipes is that I can add a new feed whenever I want and anybody who is using the widget will automatically start to receive content from the newly added feed.
Version 1.0 can be downloaded by clicking on this link or by visiting the “downloads” section of this website.
Let me know if you encounter any problems of if there is a feed that you would like me to add. I’m also looking for some help in sprucing the widget up. Let me know if you’re interested.

How about some TV Squad/PVR Wire love?

Oh, and this looks like a great idea for a widget!
Brad,
TVSquad was one of the first sites that I thought about including. The only problem is that I’m trying to include only TiVo content. Do you have a feed which only lists TiVo content?
It’s not perfect, but here’s a feed of every story tagged with TiVo:
http://www.tvsquad.com/tag/tivo/rss.xml
A few non-TiVo stories might sneak in there occasionally, but it should work.
FYI, it’s not easy to find this information on Weblogs Inc blogs, but there are a ton of RSS feeds for each site. You can just ad /category/xxx/rss.xml or /tag/xxx/rss.xml to a lot of our pages to get the specific RSS feeds.
Brad,
I just added it. Thanks for providing me with that feed url.
Cool.
As for other feeds, TiVo’s own blog – in case it ever updates again! PVRBlog.com – maybe filtered for TiVo-only posts. The Weaknees Blog. PVR Wire @ TV Squad perhaps?
Heh – I had the blog entry open for a while while I was working on something and just finally posted my comment – looks like PVR Wire got taken care of.
But thanks for looking out for us MegaZone!
Good point about TiVo’s official blog. I’ll add it even if they don’t update it all that often. As far as Weaknees and PVRBlog are concerned, I haven’t added either of these blogs because I am trying to keep the content to TiVo. If you can come up with a feed that only has TiVo content from either of these sites I’d be more then happy to add them.
Hmm, unfortunately it doesn’t look like PVRBlog tags their posts. Everything is ‘News’.
Weaknees has a category: http://www.wkblog.com/tivo_news/
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they setup MovableType to do RSS feeds by category.
FYI…
I just added Troy on TiVo to the subscription list.

How about publishing your Pipes feed so we can all take advantage of it sans Dashboard?
It’d also make an interesting Google widget, or Vista widget, or Yahoo widget, or WordPress widget, (I think one of those is a ‘gadget’), or, again, just a good rss feed.
AllPVR might be a good one to add – they got active with the PVR news recently:

Good idea. Here’s the feed url:

I’d like to AllPVR but I can’t find a TiVo only feed. AllPVR was one of the first sites that I had thought about adding. Do you know any way to get a TiVo only rss feed from AllPVR?
I figured out AllPVR: http://www.allpvr.com/category/tivo/feed/
Thanks..I just added AllPVR.

Alex,
If you haven’t already done this, you should probably change the TiVo Lovers feed to: http://www.tivolovers.com/category/tivo/feed/
That’s just the TiVo posts.
All set. Thanks for the reminder.
