I’d like to suggest a (hopefully) simple HME application for TiVo
All it would do is stream the audio from my PC to my TiVo
Sounds too simple?… Here’s why it would be GREAT
Many of us have our TiVo’s connected to our home entertainment centers
On my PC I already have the programs that do all the ‘heavy lifting’ when it comes to the music I want to hear
- a great player for my music collection
- subscription to the online music services I love (last.fm, etc.)
So why try to ‘reinvent the wheel’ and make the above programs work on my PC?
Let my PC decide on how and what music I want
Have HME App deliver to my TiVo
Let my TiVo deliver it to my entertainment system

I didn’t know about the HomeSeer plug-in, that’s pretty cool. If I can control my home automation from my couch I’ll be a happy camper.

Just downloaded the Tivo HME Dev kit, my focus is to look into streaming AOL Radio XML into the menu, using the same technique used on iGoogle.. If all goes well on the localhost of the simulator then will post to the messageboards to finalize to apps.tv. If anyone has input on this let me know, as of now I don’t have an eta when it will be ready: but I am looking forward to adding my ideas to the community and many to come.

It would be nice if more sites would follow in the footsteps of http://www.apps.tv and http://www.playteevee.com by offering webspace for people who want to run HME apps on their TiVos. It sure would be easier than setting up a server for the TiVo at home.

Well, there’s one that you have to pay for — MoodLogic. I bought it a few years back. The company is in business but hasn’t done so much as a bugfix in years. Still, it works pretty well overall. People rate various aspects of tunes and it tries to string tunes together that will work with each other.

andy, HME apps by definition require a host computer, so asking for them to ‘discover and “install” them directly from the TiVo itself’ will never happen.

OTOH, that host computer doesn’t need to be your own. The apps.tv site just requires adding 209.97.196.52 to your list of servers, then suddenly you have their content.

Editor: the Music Monkey description should be changed from the “how it works” content on their homepage to the real description (“Music Monkey is a music quiz game for one or two players.”) from their documentation page, to prevent people thinking it’s a remote control app. No, I don’t know why they don’t put the “real” description on their homepage either.

This is a nice list, but all these HME will remain only for hacker-types until TiVo makes it easier to discover and “install” them directly from the TiVo itself.

You’d like that by now, TiVo would have certified some of these apps, and offered them to me right on my TiVo. No, we’re still looking at the same 3 games and 3 lame Yahoo apps.
