Same problem here using D11 (mfr code 500). Tried to setup using hughes as the manufacture at first. Didn't work. Then I found a 'directv' option in the tivo series 2 ir setup. That did the trick.

User might need the USB TV Translator found at:

http://www.patersontech.com/Translator/TransMain.aspx

Read the FAQ. It works with the D11 and the TiVo. Google the search term "USB TV Translator" to find other info out there.

I think the D11 is the DirecTV current SD box.

Can a TiVo control a STB over a serial port? This box does not have a serial port but it does have a USB port.

MythTV can control this box via it's USB port using a perl script. It takes a serial cable, null modem cable and a serial-to-USB all connected for it to work. Actually works also on the H20 box too.

See this wiki entry to see how this is done for mythtv:

http://mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Controlling_DirecTV_Set_Top_Box_%28STB%29_via_USB_or_Serial

Now having the TiVo box work like this might be a problem. Maybe Megazone or Alex would have an idea. I just wanted to point out that the box can be controlled as if it had a serial port. Maybe with the right cables the TiVo would be able to control it too? I hope it can work for you.

If it is the HIRD-D11, it doesn't look promising.

I encountered a similar problem when setting up a TiVo IR for a low-end wal-mart/best buy direcTV reciever. Hopefully the issue is the same here.
The problem is that the submenu (in "Channel Changing") for picking the correct DirectTV receiver model for sending the IR channel changing codes gives no indication that there is more than one page worth of possible models (i.e. unlike most other instances in the TiVo UI with more than one screen worth of items, there is no attendant up and down triangle at the right corners of the screen.) I was able to find a model with a code that worked by using the channel down button to page down to more options for that brand of receiver.
Hopefully, this is the issue. Otherwise, be sure to check all those same issues about making sure the IR transmitter is positioned correctly and all that.
