Mac TiVoToGo Is Finally Here (Thanks To Roxio)
Update 1/8 @ 9:47AM EST: TiVo has updated their website which now includes a link to Roxio’s software. Apparently TiVo has been working with Roxio to provide this software. The following press release contains even more details.
“The demand for TiVoToGo continues to grow rapidly, especially as the use of mobile devices for viewing video becomes more pervasive. Now, through our joint alliance with Roxio, we are able to answer that strong demand by delivering TiVoToGo to the Mac platform,” said TiVo’s vice president of product marketing, Jim Denney. “By extending this capability to the passionate Mac community, TiVo continues to support our idea that “It’s not TiVo, unless it’s a TiVo.”‘
For a limited time if you purchase Roxio Toast you will also receive a free TiVo glo remote!
To celebrate the arrival of TiVoToGo for the Mac OS, courtesy of TiVo, customers who purchase Toast 8 Titanium either at Macworld Expo booth #314 or through www.roxio.com/macworld can receive a FREE TiVo Glo remote, a $49.99 value. This offer is for a limited time while supplies last.

This is great news for all you Mac maniacs. It’s disappointing that TiVo couldn’t deliver on their promise but at least another company has stepped up and taken the lead.
I plan on getting a copy of Roxio Toast once I purchase my Mac. If somebody else tries it out before me let me know. I’m interested to hear how it works….

Since it’s already over a year late, and the windows version is free, and i have been a loyal tivo subscriber, shouldn’t I get a copy for free?

Toast is nearly useless these days. The core OS handles burning CD’s, DVD’s, both data and video. Disk Utility handles imaging and iso burning. Toast has simply been unnecessary for years - I own it and haven’t opened it since I got it for OS X.
What incredible assholes. I advocated contracting this to a third party company, but not by giving them control of selling it. Now that can stamp “job done” and walk away, while Roxio laughs all the way to the bank.

That would be nice but….no :).

What a useless program. Here’s what it doesn’t have that the Windows application has:
* The ability to transcode immediately after downloading. This might have been correctable with AppleScript, but it doesn’t have any automation.
* Does not have TiVo GoBack facility.
* Appears to prematurely end recordings if you exit the application while it’s downloading.
I will admit that it does look pretty nice, though.
I sure hope they’re planning on giving free updates to TiVo Transfer. It seems like they rushed to get this product out before MacWorld. In the meantime I suggest using TiVo Decode Manager.
P.S.
As to Toast itself — I’d like to see better video conversion for the TiVo files. The DVD menu stuff is much worse than iDVD, you’d expect that it would be at least as good as what the Mac comes with. I’m not sure what their Deja Vu extra is — it’s missing from my version.
