Series 3 TiVo Hands On

Series 3 TiVo FrontLike I said yesterday, the Series 3 news just keeps on coming in. This time our buddy Dave Zatz posted several videos and pictures of the Series 3 TiVo in action. I’m not sure how he got his hands on one but the sneaky chump did :).

Here’s a summary of what he found out:

  • The unit will cost $799
  • No TiVoToGo, Multi-Room Viewing or External Hard Drive just yet
  • The service fee remains at $12.95/month or $6.95/month for those individuals who already have a non-bundled unit subscription. Everybody else will have to sign up for a subscription ($155.40 for one year or $299 for two years)
  • For $200, you will be able to transfer a lifetime subscription from one of your old TiVos to the Series 3.
  • For $299, you will be able to get a three year subscription to the TiVo service
  • Units go on sale today at TiVo.com. They will be available in BestBuy and CircuitCity shortly (as of this writing they are not on TiVo.com).

If you haven’t checked out the links above you really need to. Dave provides a lot more information then I wasn’t able to summarize. Nice job Dave!

Don’t forget to put me down as your referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com). I’d really appreciate it!

More Series 3 TiVo News

Series 3 TiVo At Circuit CitySeries 3 TiVo news just keeps on coming in. This time Dave Zatz found a page on CircuitCity’s website which suggests that the Series 3 is about to be released. Along with the page Dave found, the folks over at HDBeat (one of my favorite HD websites) pre-ordered a Series 3 TiVo at their local BestBuy.

Has anybody else tried to pre-order a Series 3 TiVo? I tried to get some information out of my local BestBuy but, nobody was willing to really help me out.

I’m really starting to think that Sept. 17th is will be the release date. Everything just seems to be falling into place…

TiVo And CBS Team Up On Fantasy Football

TiVo and CBS have signed up for yet another partnership. This time they are going to serve up fantasy football content for all you crazy fantasy football fans.

Instead of having to get on the Internet with a computer, users will be able to manage their football teams, check up-to-the-minute statistics and scores or watch highlights, all with their TiVo remote control. They’ll also have access to team-related breaking news and CBS SportsLine videos, including pre-game analysis, player interviews and special fantasy football content.

This partnership looks to be pretty damn cool if you ask me. I’m not taking part in a fantasy football league this year but, this type of service would have definitely helped me last year or the year before.

Thanks Mike!

TiVo To Offer Lifetime Subscription Transfer to Series 3?

TiVo Guy

Update (09/07/06 @ 6:36 AM EST):  TiVoCommunity is going wild with people talking about the same offer.  I guess it wasn’t just a rumor.  Damn, I wish I had bought the lifetime subscription when I had a chance.  $199 doesn’t seem like a bad deal (Thanks MegaZone).

According to a submission on Digg.com, TiVo has said that they will allow you to transfer your lifetime subscription to a Series 3 TiVo for only $199. Until my TiVo receives the message that the author mentioned, I am going to chalk this one up as a rumor.

If this rumor is true, it would definitely be good news. I don’t own a lifetime subscription but I’m sure a lot of people would be happy with this news. Stay tuned for any updates (if there are any).

Series 3 TiVo To Cost $800

Update (09/06/06 @ 9:38 PM EST): I’ve created a post/poll just to discuss whether or not the Series 3 TiVo is worth $800.

The folks over at engadget found an article in next months issue of Popular Mechanics which confirms that the Series 3 TiVo will infact cost $800.

What do you think? Is $800 too much? I was hoping for more like $500 but that might have been wishful thinking. I’m not sure that the boss will approve $800! In any event, it looks like the Series 3 really is about to be released. Maybe the Sept. 17th rumor wasn’t that far off.
