Series 3 TiVo Being Unboxed!

Series 3 TiVo FrontUpdate 08/31/2006 @ 8:30 PM EST: Apparently the individual (Mark Lamb) who supplied the pictures is an employee at a retail electronics store.

I’m not sure how PVRWire got their hands on this one but, they have pictures of the Series 3 TiVo being unboxed! Does this mean that the Series 3 TiVo will in fact be released on the 17th of Sept? I don’t know but if I were you, I would get my guess in for the competition. It sure does look like the Series 3 TiVo that we’ve all been waiting for will be released soon!

TiVo Shanan Introduces TiVo KidZone

Davis Freeberg sent me a link to an interesting commercial on YouTube.com (4:47).

During the commercial, TiVo Shanan does a great job describing the features and benefits of TiVo KidZone. It’s an especially interesting commercial if you aren’t already familiar with how KidZone works.

Does anybody know where this commercial came from? I’ve never seen it before….

Thanks Davis!

Series 3 TiVo Release Date Competition

TiVo Slippers

We have a winner!  A special thanks goes out to everybody who participated

Since everybody else seems to be speculating on the price and release date of the Series 3 TiVo. I thought it was a good idea to host the following competition (Digg here).

Here’s how it will work:

  • Leave a comment attached to this post with the date that you think the Series 3 TiVo will be released as well as how much you think it will retail for (I will probably use BestBuy or a similiar store for the retail cost).
  • Who ever guesses closest to the release date will receive a prize from TiVo’s website (not to exceed $25).
  • If there is more then one person who gets the date correct, I will then decide on a winner based on the cost that you list.
  • If multiple people win with the same date and retail cost, I will randomly select a winner from a hat.
  • Please remember to leave a valid email address when you post your comment so that I can contact you if you win.
  • One comment per person!
  • The competition will end on Sept 1st @ 12:59PM EST (or sooner if the Series 3 is released before then :) )
Good luck and may the TiVo guy be with you!

EchoStar Agrees To Pay TiVo 100 Million?

TiVo vs. EchoStarCorrection (08/28 @ 10:07PM EST): It looks like the news on WSJ really is referring to the $100 million that EchoStar agreed to pay over the retransmission of distant TV stations to subscribers. Sorry for getting everybody excited :(. Thanks Dave for clarifying this.

According to the WSJ (requires login), EchoStar has agreed to pay TiVo 100 million to settle their dispute.

I haven’t been able to find any more information on any other websites. If anybody finds a better link, feel free to post it in the comments….

Thanks JohnnyJohnJohn!

CNNMoney: To TiVo Or Not To TiVo?

TiVo Stock ChartThis is a good read if you own TiVo stock or if you are thinking about purchasing some….

Despite a big legal victory and new deal with cable company Cox, some analysts think TiVo’s stock is due for a pause after a big rally.

TiVo Rumors Galore

Here’s a bunch of TiVo rumors that I haven’t had time to cover:

Apps.tv Adds Two New TiVo HME Applications

Apps.tv has added a couple new applications to their growing list of TiVo HME apps. The two new apps are: Web-a-Tune for TiVo & Web-a-photo for TiVo. They both look like neat apps especially if you’re already a user of web-a-photo.com.

Follow these instructions if you would like to access any of apps.tv’s software:

1) Press the TiVo button on your remote to go to the TiVo Central screen, then select the “Music, Photos & More” entry.

2) Scroll down to near the bottom and select “Manually add a server…”

3) Using the keypad on your remote enter the ip address for apps.tv: 209.97.196.52

4) Press LEFT to go back to the Music, Photos & More screen and you should now see the Subscription Manager Entry. Select that entry to run the Subscription Manager.

Cox Cable And TiVo Announce Deployment Agreement

cox communicationsBack in May I reported that Cox might license TiVo technology. Well, just today, TiVo and Cox announced a deployment agreement. Under the agreement:

TiVo will customize its cable software for deployment on compatible Cox DVR set-top-boxes. TiVo’s downloadable software will allow Cox to deliver the TiVo® service in Cox subscriber homes without replacing existing DVR boxes, and without an install appointment. In this way, current Cox DVR customers who wish to enjoy the award-winning TiVo service, can quickly and easily add the benefits of TiVo to their DVR subscription.

The service is expected to launch in select Cox markets in the first half of 2007

This is obviously good news for TiVo. Now they have a partnership with Comcast, Cox and DirecTV. I sure do wish I had more stock in TiVo!
