Comcast To Roll Out TiVo DVR Sooner Then Expected?

TiVo ComcastAccording to a well respected individual over on satelliteguys.us, Comcast may rollout their TiVo DVR as soon as Q4 if not earlier. Also, according to this same individual, the Comcast TiVos will have all the same functionality as a regular TiVo minus the broadband content at first.

Is this just all a rumor or is the Comcast TiVo almost ready to be released? Let me know if anybody knows any more about this. I’m not a Comcast customer however, I think TiVo would really benefit from this partnership.

Thanks johnnyjohnjohn, spotted on TiVoToday.

You know, I have been waiting for this. I actually like COmcast; I am one of their eleven satisfied customers. Get my internet from them, too. But this may be too late. I just ordered a Direct TV package to coincide with my Panasonic plasma. And the DTV package has a Tivo unit with HD. I love my Tivo, but without an HD offering, both units are being relegated to bedrooms. The living room gets the HD. Comcast may be late to the game on this one.

It’s worth noting that about 20 minutes after XPLonghorn claimed to having insight onto the Comcast launch, he then jumped to another forum and claimed that Verizon is considering using TiVo because they’ve had too many Motorola boxes fail. This guy clearly knows what he’s taking about, but his statements are so over the top that I’d be hesitant to take this at face value.

First I would like to say things are moving along very well with the rollout but we all must still remember that these are rumors and as such things change and we endup being wrong. Also Davis please keep in mind I’ve talked about Tivo and Verizon long before the Comcast posts and I’ve made it very clear they are just talking at this point. I feel its best to tell everyone they are talking as this might spur others to contact Verizon and request they add Tivo software.

Just in case you wanted to know I talked about Verizon and Tivo in March and it could have been earlier than that but I honestly don’t remember. I may have posted on another forum twenty minutes later but that sure wasn’t the first time I talked about it.

As a matter of fact I talked about a Verizon and Tivo partnership in March of 2005 and those were very very early talks but things have changed with regards to box problems from that point. I’m sure if you looked hard enough you would also find I said Verizon is also looking at other platforms such as Moxi among others. We just have to wait and see as these types of rumors most likely don’t pan out as so much is involved and its at such an early stage but the more people know about the more likely those people can make their concerns aware to the people that matter.

Earlier this month Comcast notified its customers in Garland, Texas that they are transfering the accounts to Time/Warner sometime near the end of July. Does anyone know if the new TiVo DVR (mentioned above) will be available to Time/Warner customers? If not, I’m bolting to DirecTV.

    Bob,
I haven’t heard about any partnership between TiVo in TW. If I had to guess I would say that the TiVo service won’t be offered under TW. Anybody disagree?

[...] This is obviously good news for TiVo.  Now they have a partnership with Comcast, Cox and DirecTV.  I sure do wish I had more stock in TiVo! [...]

Yeah, I’m *still* a time warner cable customer (obviously I’m a glutton for punishment) … my best bet at this point is to purchase a TiVo Series 3 myself, chuck their lame HD-DVR, and go with the Cable Card. However, I just can’t bring myself to plunk down $800 for the box and who-knows-how-much to get Time Warner to install it. Sigh …

I live in St Augustine, and Comcast has just acquired Time warner here. So, hang in there! I have a question. Does anyone know if the new Tivo/comcast box will allow saving recordings to DVD instead of VHS only I need a beta person to help!

SOrry to burst people’s bubbles, but I have now had Comcast’s version of TIVO on my Moto box for 2 weeks and my whole family despises, disdains and utterly loathes it. It is truly horrific. They could not have made it worse if they tried. In fact, it is so bad that we have started laughing at all the crazy things it does and wondering if Comcast is videotaping us for a Punked episode.

Here’s a very partial list of Comcast TiVo’s little shop of horrors:

    1) ghosts that change channels by themselves;

    2) the infamous green screen, much like the Microsoft blue screen of death, that blots out all else on its own whim

    3) season passes that create themselves, and can’t be deleted. We have one for the News at 9:00. Even three thumbs down won’t kill it! It is to Comcast Tivo as Spyware, Malware and WOrmware are to one’s PC

    4) DELAYS like you’ve never seen before–delays changing channels, delays going to OnDemand, menu delays, time setting delays, searching and taping and deleting delays…

    5) If nothing else proves how horrific and nighmarish this thing is, then get this: my whole family is praying to get our old Comcast interface back as soon as possible!!! The irony is, when I called Comcast to ditch this horror show, they begged me to keep the Tivo until a new patch came out. Would anyone like to venture a guess as to the timef rame for aforementioned "illusory" patch?

I talked to a Comcast/Tivo guy today to cancel my service and switch back to what I have come to realize is the amazing Comcast DVR software and he said there is a patch being released the first week in March that will fix the latency issuse and the surround sound issue.
