Comcast To Begin Beta Testing Their HD TiVo?

TiVo ComcastAccording to this thread on AVS forum, Comcast plans on beta testing their HD DVR with TiVo software next month! This could just be a rumor but it sounds legit since the Comcast TiVo deal has been in the open for quite some time now.

If anybody gets their hands on a Comcast TiVo DVR, I would love to hear about it. I’m not a Comcast user but, I’m sure there are a lot of people who would be interested in getting more information.

Thanks Mike!

Kids And Tech, How TiVo Is Changing Your Childs Life

Here’s an interesting read for anybody who owns a TiVo and is a parent. The article talks about how DVRs and other technology have changed the way in which our children perceive the world. Interesting if you are into that kind of thing…

In Sam’s world, whatever he wants to watch is at his — or, rather, his parents’ — fingertips. We have TiVo, and we’ve amassed a sizable collection of his favorite shows. He never has to wait for The Wiggles to come on; he asks and he receives. I feel bad when we can’t show him something because we didn’t think to record it the first time we watched it.

Summer Time Does Not Equal TiVo Time

I wrote about this once before but I thought I would mention it again. Just like blogging, I haven’t been spending a lot of time using my TiVo. At most, my wife and I have been watching a half-hour of TV a night. That being said, I am extremely happy that I own a TiVo since I can watch what I want when I want to. During the summer months I tend to watch less TV because I am extremely busy with other things and because summer TV programming is boring in my opinion.

Do you use your TiVo as much during the summer?

TiVo’s First Quarter Earnings Conference Call

Thomas Hawk has done a nice job reporting on yesterday’s earnings conference call.  According to the Tom, the overall tone of the call was anti-Echostar.   During the call, CEO Tom Rogers talked more about the injunction that TiVo is seeking against Echostar and what it really means. In addition to Echostar news, TiVo also talked about the following:

  • 4.4 Million subscribers
  • Advertising dollars are growing
  • Series 3 TiVo to be out later in the year

Head on over to Tom’s site for more information.

Why TiVo Should Be On Google’s Wishlist

Here’s an interesting article on why Google should consider purchasing TiVo.  It’s nothing more then speculation however, it’s interesting if you’re into that kind of thing.

Series 2 Dual Tuner Rebooting?

Several people on TiVoCommunity have reported that their new Series 2 dual tuner TiVo has been rebooting at random times.  Nobody seems to have a solution to this problem however, if enough people call TiVo I’m sure that it will get fixed.  TiVo is normally pretty good about getting out a fix ASAP.

Like any “first” generation device there are bound to be problems.  Hopefully it’s not a hardware problem and only a software fix is required.  Stay tuned if you are having this problem….

Inside TiVo’s Shipping Department

The official TiVo blog has posted an interesting discussion with their shipping and events coordinator (Greg-O). In the post, Greg does a nice job describing the shipping department and what he does on a daily basis.

Check it out if you ever wondered what it was like to be a TiVo employee….

TiVo News I Wasn’t Able To Cover

I just got back from a five day business trip where I wasn’t able to access this website using the hotel’s internet connection.  For some reason, it appears as though the hotel was blocking my site and several others.  Strange!

In any case, here’s what happened over the past couple of days.  I guess it’s better to be late then never :).

Cox Cable To License TiVo Technology?

According to this thread on TiVo Community, Cox Cable has published a survey that suggests that the company may in fact license TiVo technology for their DVRs.

While Cox currently offers its own DVR service, the Cox DVR may soon be powered by TiVo, and include the features that TiVo owners have come to expect. If Cox were to offer digital cable service with a TiVo branded DVR for about the same price as you are currently paying for satellite service each month, how likely would you be to switch from satellite TV to Cox cable that featured this TiVo branded DVR service?

I don’t think anybody has verified this story however it would be interesting if it turns out to be true.

Thanks Mike!
