[...] Back on March 28th this site and several others broke the news about TiVo releasing a dual tuner Series 2 DVR. Well, the lucky bastards over at Engadget and CNET got their hands on one before anybody else. The 80 hr. version is currently available for $254 with a prepaid one year subscription. TiVo’s own press release states the following: “We’ve been hearing from our subscribers that they wanted a TiVo DVR that could record two shows at once,” said Jim Denney , Vice President of Product Marketing at TiVo. “With the TiVo Series2 DT DVR, we’ve delivered that capability to our customers at a very affordable price.” “We are excited to bring the new TiVo Series2 DT DVR into our stores,” said Rick Bickford, Merchandise Manager at Circuit City . “TiVo is one of our most well-loved brands and we’re confident that the feature enhancements and low price point are going to make the TiVo Series2 DT DVR a big hit.” The TiVo Series2 DT DVR will join the existing TiVo product line, and is available in an 80-hour model priced at just $99.99, after rebate and service activation. It will also be available at tivo.com bundled with the TiVo service. [...]

Basically I'm getting the 1-year TiVo package because I'm moving to a place where I'll have access to basic analog cable and cannot get digital cable and a Time Warner DVR. About this time next year I'll be able to get Time Warner's DVR again.

I was really holding out for the Series 3 but if it's as expensive as I hear it is, there's no way I'll be able to get it. I'll be very cautiously watching the Dual Tuner Series 2 situation over the next month so if it does come out I'll use the 30-Day return.

Mark,
If I were you, I would wait for the Series 3 or at the very least an updated Series 2 with dual tuners. In either case you are going to have to pay more then you probably spent so if that is a problem, you might want to stick with what you already have.

So, you're saying I *shouldn't* have just ordered a new TiVo with that package deal?

I'm guessing they'd never do the dual-tuner Series 2 or the new Series 3 as part of that subscription deal... right?

I guess I'm glad they have the 30-day return.

I’m not seeing an expected ship date, just a “first listed on Amazon.com” date. Earlier today, the 180-hour was listed for May 15 and the 80-hour was listed for May 1. Now both are showing March 29. I’m not sure whether I think the first dates posted reflect expected availability, or whether there was just a glitch in the system and the dates don’t mean anything.

Your right. I've updated the post with some new wording.
