I did an analyisys to show just how much the new plans will cost. Basically the only way one of the new plans won’t cost you an arm & a leg over the liftime of your TiVo (I estimated at 4 years) is if you get the 3 year pre-paid plan, this will cost you only $494 over a four year period, compared with $622 for the “service only” monthly price.
You can see the entire breakdown on my home page (http://robert.aitchison.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=177) (sorry the formatting sucks I should have taken the time to make a table)

The lifetime is still there for puchased boxes, I just bought another box for the bedroom (before the lifetime expires), you gotta admit that a sub-400 dollar box is a good deal in these times.
I’ve dumped a lot of money in the last couple months trying to get a bedroom solution (SnapStream with MediaMVP, a quite fanless box, etc) and have come to the conclusion that for us another tivo is what we needed.
The lifetime changes pushed me to act now.

I also bought another TiVo for our bedroom to get in on the lifetime (last week the day the original announcement was made), same with my parents (their third TiVo) for their Den, at the same time they converted their bedrrom TiVo from MSD to Lifetime.
Lots of people I’m sure have bought them in the past week, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 7 day period (3/8-3/15) was one of the, perhaps the biggest revenue weeks in the history of TiVo if as many people went out and bought lifetime as it seems.
Of course TiVo isn’t likely to post such a statistic even if it’s true, so it’s pure speculation at this point.
