What’s Up With The “Official” TiVo Blog?

Official TiVo BlogIs it just me or have other people noticed that TiVo hasn’t been updating their blog all that often? Between Dec. 28th & Jan. 23rd the blog was never updated! What’s the sense in having a blog if you aren’t going to keep it up to date? I had really hoped that the official TiVo blog would be a lot more informative. There has been a lot of TiVo news as of late. Why wouldn’t TiVo use their blog to talk about CES news like the Series 3 TiVo or the fact that TiVoToGo for the Mac is on the way? Come on TiVo, I’m not going to give you a break on this one….

Since day one the official TiVo blog has been a corporate mouthpiece that didn’t add any real value. The value of a good blog is the fact that insider information and and other interesting stuff gets posted regardless of the official corporate standpoint. All I ever saw on the blog was an echoing of announcements at the same time as the official ones.

BTW, this is a problem with most corporate sponsored blogs, not just tivo’s.

  2. [...] Recently I put up a post on TiVoBlog.com which criticized TiVo for not keeping their blog up to date. Thomas Hawk was nice enough to notice this post and recommend that TiVo hire me or Dave Zatz (another great blogger) to blog for TiVo. Hey TiVo, if you need some help on your blog let me know! I’d be more then happy to help! [...]

  4. The TiVo blog is a joke, they only post the positive comments too. Talk about a PR machine.

Seems like a no brainer with such a die-hard, tech-savvy user base. Having a good blog would get people reading it every day and help build more buzz about the company.

  6. [...] Thomas Hawk reports the offical TiVo blog is offline. He’s also reporting that the blog sucks… though that may be subjective. Alex Raiano, of the unofficial TiVo Blog, raises questions as well. My expectations for TiVo’s blog weren’t very high, so I’m neither surprised nor disappointed. I always felt the blog was intended as another venue for light-weight fluff… confirmed by comment filtering and 1/3 of all sentences ending with exclamation points. [...]

    Anyone else run into this?

Strolling through upcoming episodes of PBS Frontline shows and I notice that “Bush’s War” won’t be recorded by season pass – no other recording conflict, not previously recorded (it’s never broadcast before), no reason not to automatically record.

TIVO does not deliver what it promises. Inferior recorders, missed shows, etc. I just cancelled my subscription…not worth the money or hassle.
