Using TiVoToGo While On The Road
Over the past two months, I’ve been traveling a lot. Essentially, I’ve been on travel a little over one week each month :(. Because of this excessive amount of travel (I usually don’t travel that much), I’ve found a new appreciation for TiVoToGo. As I’m sure you’re well aware, a lot of travel time is spent sitting in an airport doing nothing. Without TiVoToGo, I think I would have gone crazy by now. For example, right now I am sitting in the Syracuse airport with nothing to do but to boot up my laptop and catch up on last week’s episode of The Office. If it weren’t for TiVoToGo, the past two months of travel would have been a lot more boring and annoying. Now all I need to do if find a way to bring my wife and son with me. If only TiVo would develop FamilyToGo :). Come on TiVo get to work!
What do you use TiVoToGo for? Do you use it while on business travel or do you use it mainly to archive your favorite shows and burn them to DVD? Let me know….

Watching Battlestar Galactica on the laptop while the wife is engrossed in some man-hater movie on Lifetime. If that alone doesn’t justify the purchase price of a TiVo nothing could.

TivoToGo is definitely great for traveling. If you are traveling and have internet access, you need to check out http://www.orb.com, it allows you to stream your content over the web. Orb even has a tivotogo plugin that allows you to stream your tivo recordings. Orb is even free.

Scott: Thanks for that link. I’ve been drooling over a Slingbox for months, but I wouldn’t use it to its full potential. Orb is exactly what I need to get the content that records while I’m gone. scp’ing 1GB programs from my home machine over my home Comcast connection just doesn’t cut it when Bit Torrent is much more tempting
I’ve also been recording movies from HBO lately, but my poor TiVo gets so full that TiVo2GoBack has been a godsend in archiving and pushing movies out when I have time to watch.

I have a two hour commute each way daily, so I use Galleon to auto download the daily show and the Colbert Report every night and I set my laptop up in the morning in the car and listen to both shows on my ride in. It’s a great way to start the day. I also tivo histories and biographies to listen to as well.
