TiVo To Work With Intel’s Upcoming Viiv Platform

TiVo and Intel have agreed to work together on Intel’s upcoming Viiv entertainment PC platform. To be perfectly honest, I’m not exactly sure what the heck Viiv is all about. This is the first time I’ve ever even heard about Viiv.

Digital video recorder pioneer TiVo Inc. plans to use the technology to make it simple not only to transfer from TiVo set-top box to a Viiv PC but also allow for the transfer of shows on the PC to a TiVo. Viiv also will make it easier to move the content to a DVD or handheld player.

Viiv is just more marketing from Intel. They continue to obsess over being at the center of the digital living room. However, this time around they stuck to what they do best: mass producing chips. Past digital living room projects have wound up on the trash heap or languish in obscurity (digital joy, their attempt to power an LCoS TV system, etc). No real news here.
