Want To Get A Glimpse Of TiVo’s Next Software Release?

One of TiVo’s biggest enthusiast, MegaZone, just informed me that TiVo is looking for new people to join their beta program. According to TiVoPony on TiVoCommunity:

…I’ll tell you up front that it’s a minor release, not a major one. But there’s a lot of groundwork buried within. But should you get it? Well, if you own a 540 or a 590 prefix recorder that’s experienced macroblocking with the previous release, you’ll probably want this. If you have a TiVo-powered DVD Recorder or DVD Player and would really like to have TiVoToGo asap, you’ll probably want this. If you’d like to have network support within Guided Setup, you’ll probably want this. Or if you just want to be near the front of the line for all of the other tweaks and improvements in this release, you’ll probably want this. You may even get a peak at some other stuff. No promises though!

Sounds like some cool new features and bug fixes. Click here if you would like to sign up.

Thanks MegaZone! Keep it coming :).

How Low Can TiVo Prices Go? Humax DRT400 For $299!

It seems like every couple of months the cost of a TiVo DVR drops. Take for example the latest news that Humax has reduced their price on the DRT400 to $299! As Yahoo notes, this is the lowest price for a TiVo DVD recorder ever. The nicest part about this deal is that it doesn’t require you to fill out any rebate paperwork. The savings is instantaneous!

From Yahoo:

Hitting the market in May 2005, and following on the heels of its award- winning predecessor (DRT800), the DRT400 is comprised of a state-of-the-art 40-hour TiVo Series2(TM) DVR, a DVD recorder (-R -R/W) and a progressive scan DVD player, making it an outstanding value. “Now with this $100 instant savings offer, the DRT400 is nothing short of a steal at $299!” exclaimed Humax USA Business Development and Strategic Marketing Vice President Tony Goncalves.

To take advantage of this offer, head on over to TiVo’s website. If you buy it directly from TiVo you also get free shipping ($17.00)!

This piece of news makes we wonder. How low can TiVo DVR prices go? After all, I purchased my first TiVo for well over $200 less then two years ago. This same DVR now sells for $100! Will we ever see a time when TiVo DVRs cost next to nothing?

I hate to be a beggar however; if you decide to get this DVR, I would appreciate it if you put me down as the referrer (raianoat AT gmail DOT com). Thanks !

TiVo Desktop v 1. 9.1 Works With OS X 10.4.2!

According to this post over at The Unoffical Apple Weblog, Apple’s Mac OS X 10.4.2 update restored the ability to use TiVo desktop v1.9.1. I’m not a Mac user so I don’t exactly know what the problem was however; I thought I would let all you Mac users know that I found this news article. Good luck and let us know if this fixes your problem(s).
