Any Ideas For A TiVo HME Application?

I’m a developer, I like TiVo and I like a challenge so, it only seems fit that I enter the TiVo Developer Challenge. Ultimately I’d like to come up with a set of cool new apps that leverage the TiVo HME framework.

The problem is that the May 1st deadline is quickly approaching and I haven’t decided what to do.

Since I work at Yahoo, something Yahoo-related seemed a natural choice perhaps, but what? I thought of doing something with Flickr since Yahoo recently bought Flickr, but alas, somebody has already written a very nice Flickr TiVo app.

So what would everybody like to see? Yahoo Mail? My Yahoo! RSS feeds? A Tetris game?

A “My Yahoo!” tool would be fun, but probably not much of a challenge! I’d love to see something that adds some Mac OS integration capabilities, though obviously what you can do will be somewhat limited. Good luck!

You might want to check out the Application Wishlist forum at HME.PVRblog.com for ideas. Not all of them are feasable, but there are some good ideas.

How about a lookup and parse function for yahoo tv and movies section to display information about the people and programs listed in the now playing xml data? There’s a ton of mineable data in there.

How about a feature that can take streaming radio feeds that are only available with programs like Realplayer or Microsoft Mediaplayer? Thanks.

iTunes streaming support — there’s already an iTunes plugin for *controlling* iTunes from the TiVo, but not for actually streaming and playing over the network and through the TiVo’s audio outputs. This would be a perfect treat for iPod+TiVo owners.

I would love to see Yahoo’s LaunchCast on my TiVo!

Even if it could not stream the music, I would like control (similar to audio faucet and iTunes)

I would want to use my Thumbs Up/Down to rate my music.

I may even be willing to pay for it.
