I was just wondering if anybody knows when TiVo HME is expected to go “live”? Right now HME is still mainly for developers and people who are interested in playing around with their TiVo. There have already been a bunch of sweet apps released for HME however; I’d like to seem them polished up and put into a install package so that Gradma Jones could install it.

“…TiVo invites the developer community to…TiVo Developer Challenge. Winners will be announced at the 2005 JavaOne conference in San Francisco.” – http://www.tivo.com/4.3.hme.asp
‘05 JavaOneSM conference, June 27-30 http://java.sun.com/javaone/sf/index.jsp
From this and tidbits of information from lots of other sources I’d guess Second half of ‘05. I expect some exciting announcements related to TiVo products / features in the coming months of this year: Internet distribution of TiVo recorded content, Cool HME apps, PC and or internet enabled interface to Tivo Server App., Better TiVo-to-Go performance -via third parties if TiVo doesn’t get it done in house, and hopefully the Netflix VOD download service will come on-line. Though less likely due to licensing agreements- I’ve read some expectations for an ‘05 time table and that at least WB and Tivo / Netflix have had talks.
Here’s to wishful thinking- but all are plausible and I’d guess many are already completed, but have yet to be announced and rolled in to the product while the legal eagles iron out all of the wrinkles. The TiVo Guys to their credit or determent -depending on your point of view are a very deliberate and careful bunch.
mtorres07,
Thanks for that information!
