A Sign That TiVoToGo Is About To Be Released?
I just got off the phone with a TiVo rep who may have provided me with some good news about TiVoToGo! I called because I wanted to know the status of my rewards points TiVo. While I was on the phone with the rep, I asked the question that everybody is wondering about, “When is TiVoToGo going to be released?” The rep told me it would be pretty soon because TiVo was in the process of adding a “Media Access Key” to everybody’s account. Apparently this key is will be used with the software I’ll download in order to provide me with access to my recordings. I logged into my account and sure enough there is a new link to retrieve my Media Access Key! Hopefully this means that TiVoToGo is coming soon!

Just a wild guess, but some research may reveal that TTG will be Mac compatible:
“Media Keys are a new feature of QuickTime, much like passwords. By encoding a video track with an access key, you may limit its viewing to people who have the required key.”

Are you suggesting that the video file format will be quicktime? I’m not sure I understand what you are getting at….
Possibly – do we know otherwise? The “Media Access Key” on my TiVo account made me very curious.

I dont think it will be in Quicktime Format at least I hope not. That would require your recordings to be decoded and then encoded again to allow for access on Standard DVD Players.
TiVo records in MPEG2 format.
It may be encrypted, but to completely re-encode to a Quicktime format would take time – a LOT of time. So – I think the output file being Quicktime *highly* unlikey…
