DirecTV To Develop TiVo Rival!

USAToday is reporting that DirecTV has announced its’ plan to develop a DVR that will have nearly all of the features of TiVo along with Video On Demand (VOD). With 61% of TiVo’s subscribers coming from DirecTV, this is obviously not good news for TiVo. It will definitely be interesting to see what TiVo’s plans are for this competition.

    I thought this was intereting:

About the only TiVo function the new service will not have, they say, is the ability to jump over commercials. That’s an unadvertised TiVo feature users can activate with programming instructions widely available on the Internet.

I assume they mean the 30 second skip and not the fast forward button, which isn’t a big loss for me. 30 second skip always puts me 15 seconds into a show, so I use 60x fast forward.

For those TiVo newbies who don’t know what George is talking about, you can activate the 30 second skip by entering “Select”, “Play”, “Select”, “3″, “0″, “Select”.
