DVRs Are Changing The Way In Which Research Data Is Collected

TVHarmony pointed me to an interesting article over on Forbes.com. The article talks about how DVRs have changed the way in which Nielsen Rating does their research. With a DVR you don’t have to worry about when a show is on. You can just watch it when you want to.

The interesting thing about this article is that I was contacted just the other day by Nielsen Rating. The rep that I spoke with wanted me to keep track of the shows that I watch over a two week period. Once they were done talking about what they wanted me to do, they went into a long discussion about DVRs and what they are. The women asked me if I had a DVR and if I did I should fill out a particular section of the “diary”.

Based on my discussion with Nielsen Rating it really does look as though they are changing the way in which they perform their research.
