Is it possible to dowload shows on the hard drive to a DVD recorder linked to the TiVo? If so, is it a time consuming task? Was thinking about buying the new Humax 80-hour unit with DVD recorder and TiVo, but it’s a little steep at over $400.

To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure. This is something that I’ve never tried before. You may want to ask this question over at TiVoCommunity.com. The people over there are usually good about getting you an answer in a short amount of time. One thing to consider is that TiVoToGo should be coming out shortly. With TiVoToGo you will be able to record your shows to a DVD and potentially watch them in another device. Good luck!

A year?!? That's a real bummer because I was getting really excited about it the more I thought about it. If it's the same pricing structure (eg a flat monthly fee) it's going to be a big success among Tivo users.

According to this article, the movie download service won't be ready for at least a year! All the news I read made it sounds like the feature was about to be rolled out pretty soon. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Downloading Movies with a Tivo
According to this article in Newsweek, there are serious rumors floating around that Netflix and Tivo will jointly develop a service for downloading movies directly from the Internet.

Blake,
Yes you an purchase the lifetime subscription anytime you want to. In fact, you change to liftime subscrition via the "manage my account" section of the TiVo website (https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-com/mma/login/show.do). Good luck!

This comment isn't so much related to this post (although I am excited about the possible Netflix partnership), but you may be able to answer my question. Can you purchase the monthly subscription and then choose the lifetime sub? It would seem like a simple question, but I scoured tivo's site and tivocommunity. Just wondering. Thanks.
