What Will TiVo Do Without DirectTV?

What if any tricks does TiVo have up their sleeves to compensate for the loss of customers they are going to experience? I know that they are trying to push this whole TiVoToGo however; as we all know, TiVoToGo is experiencing a lot of resistance from Hollywood and the NFL.

TiVo needs to do something in order to ensure that it will receive new customers. Should they lower their monthly subscription rate? Would that help them? One of the biggest problems they face is that most if not all major cable companies are coming out with their own DVR solution. Most consumers will take the DVR that the cable company offers instead of going out and researching whether or not they should purchase a TiVo. Should TiVo work even harder to get some deals with cable companies?

Definitely if TiVo hopes to have any chance of survival they’ll need to continue to spread their market out to include more cable providers in addition to Directv. Of course, so far they’re also winning the patent case against Dish Network who refuses to pay licensing fees to TiVo for Dish’s DVR technology.

TiVo will do just fine. They know the meaning of customer service and Direct TV does not have a clue. Before you chose them, be sure to check out their reputation. They use local companies whose service is seldom satisfactory. If you ever have to contact them for a billing problem, have a novel handy to read while you are on hold. And NEVER pay in advance as if you ever cancel they will drag out your refund with the most ridiculous claims. They told me six to eight weeks for a refund and when that time was up they said that they had just requested the refund “yesterday” so it will be ANOTHER SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS.

I think the question is now, what will Direct TV do without TiVo? Yes they have produced their own DVR, but we all know it is terrible. Now they are giving their TiVo customers an ultimatum…”get our DVR or loose your HD channels”. I for one will give up my dish before I give up my TiVo. I’ve contacted their customer support supervisors more than once, the latest contact just got me a supervisor that gave me a “You’ve complained before, what do you want me to do now?” responce. Looks like they don’t care about me as a customer, so why should I care about them as a company?

DirectTv is so worried about getting new customers that they are not thinking when they make stupid rules that will lose them the good customers they already have. Its bad enough seeing all the discounts and give aways they offer new customers.

Be Aware: I am told that since I subscribed to a sports pkg (MLS Direct) last year that it would always be added each year to my account if I wanted it or not. Whe asked about this I was told that since I paid a discounted price for the package last year that I had to renew this year. I was never told this at the time so I asked whet the “great” discount I received to lock me into auto renewal. I was told they couldnt tell me but said it was probably $2-$3 less a year. Thats makes the discounted price $19.75 a month instead of the full price of $20.00. How stupid do they think we are!

I am beginning to think…pretty stupid if we accept this customer “no service” Well, I am not. There are enough options to make my point.
